I paint landscapes as they could be in a 100 years from now

I am a Dutch painter, living and working in Naarden, the Netherlands. I have been painting on and off for more than 30 years. I have no formal art training, I do as I please. I work in oils and acrylic, but also often use other materials such as chalk, bitumen and natural elements, like grass, twigs, thatch, seeds, sand or seaweed.

I am a sociologist by training and before I became a full time artist I persued a succesful career in business. This has brought me around the world and into the board rooms of large corporates. I bring this experience along in my practice. It has shaped my vision on the world.

I believe, we as humans have a hard hard time focussing on, and persuing longer term goals. We will often choose quick satisfaction above less immediately rewarding actions, even though we know this is not in our long term interest. This has brought us in a situation where our extinction becomes a real possibility. Therefore I paint landscapes as I imagine they could be in the not so distant future. These landscapes are often barren, with no human life form present, as it once was and as it will be. As such my works are a reflection on nature’s enduring power and our own impermance. I am not a pessimist.

Do get in contact if there is anything you like. And enjoy it while it lasts!
